The biggest shopping day of the year is said to be the day after Thanksgiving called “Black Friday”. This is the time when businesses are what they say are in the “black” which means turning a profit. This is not the case. Lower gas prices aren’t enough to get thousands of families out in the stores and shopping. Almost 5,000 people who work in the Hotel and Restaurant industry make only $7.53 which is $5.72 below the poverty line. We should be getting a living wage of $13.25 an hour in order to earn above the poverty level on Guam. When we increase the living wage, it will put more money into our families’ pockets and allow them to go out and spend the money. For every $1 spent in our economy, it circulates ten times. We can make this happen and we can do it now.
