The nation paused to mark the seventh anniversary of Sept. 11 on Thursday, holding ceremonies and moments of silence to commemorate the terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000. President Bush led a White House gathering, while relatives of victims killed in New York City did the same in downtown Manhattan. Other ceremonies were held throughout the day, including one at the Pentagon, where 15,000 people turned out for the dedication of the first permanent memorial built in remembrance of 9/11.
