How many lunch plate fundraisers did you buy in the past year? How many were to help send someone off-island for medical treatment? Probably a lot. In one health insurance company on Guam, they refer an average of 1,500-2,000 patients a year for off-island treatment! According to the most recent figures from GMH, 77% of the patients that go to GMH can’t afford to pay. Healthcare is ridiculously expensive on Guam and to top it off we lack so many medical equipment and specialists to treat our patients on island. We here at GFT believe healthcare is a right not a privilege. Everyone on Guam should have access to affordable, high quality healthcare and prescriptions right here on Guam.
