Guam’s families need more opportunities to have good, middle class jobs. Wages have been driven so low over the years making it difficult for Guam’s workers to have a decent lifestyle. Hawaii Representative Abercrombie’s amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act requiring wages for workers on the military build-up construction projects be similar to the prevailing wages for projects in Hawaii is one way we can start lifting wages on Guam. It isn’t fair that workers in construction projects are making less than half of what Hawaii workers are making on the same federal contract. Improvements in the federal level make it closer to improving the rest of Guam’s workers. Raising wages for our workers will benefit everyone and will improve Guam’s economy.
