In today’s PDN editorial, it once again suggests Guam should outsource public services to private companies because it will save costs, while at the same time generates revenue for our public structure. This will not help Guam’s working families. No cost-benefit analysis reports have been presented that state outsourcing services to private companies will save money. Outsourcing to private companies does not necessarily mean we will be generating more revenue because most large corporations on Guam are already receiving major tax breaks. We lack funds in our public structure because we aren’t receiving all the money that should be coming to us. Not only will we not save money by outsourcing but we will also be taking jobs from current public servants. We cannot take on the risks associated with privatizing public services for profit-motivated initiatives. Our public structure exists to help our people and it should stay that way.
