In an attempt to examine the social roles of local media in the Pacific Islands, Francis Dalisay of Washington State University published a research paper on the PDN. The paper begins with explaining that mass media corporations “serve as agents of social control†to “maintain social systems†and “legitimize elite interestsâ€. Due to PDN’s ownership with U.S. base corporation (Gannett), several articles, editorials, and opinions have favored “continued American control of Guam†and keeping the island at status quo.
