Over 8,000 members of Unite Here Local 2 will vote on Oct. 22 whether to authorize a strike against San Francisco’s 31 Class A hotels. They have been working without a contract since Aug. 14, when the previous two-year contract expired.
Authorizing a strike often leads to an actual strike; it is also a tactic the union uses to pressure employers.
The hotel workers union said it has met with representatives of Hilton, Hyatt, InterContinental and Starwood, and that negotiations are stuck. continue reading
