Since 1970 GFT members have been fighting for the right to negotiate pay for Guam’s public servants and now thanks to Senator Tom Ada, the hard working men and women that load and unload ships can now be able to negotiate their wages. Substitute Bill 142 was passed by the legislature and signed into law by Acting Governor Cruz which allows the GM to make wage suggestions to the Board which they can approve, disapprove or edit. Thanks to the unique way this was written, wages are now subject to Collective Bargaining. It’s a good thing because the wage scale established by consultants gave all of the big raises to those at the top leaving the people that do the actual work of the Port behind.
