Every time you tell a friend, family member or co-worker about new legislation that will improve the quality of life for working families, you’re participating in your democracy. When you take the initiative to call or write to your senators and let them know what you think will help working families, you’ve taken your participation to the next level. It’s important to participate in your democracy because it’s the only way to make changes in our island. Although the Abercrombie Amendment wasn’t included in the 2010 National Defense Authorization Act, the House and Senate extended the Davis-Bacon wage protections to all military construction projects which would require federal contractors and subcontractors to pay their laborers no less than the local prevailing wages that will be determined by the U.S. Department of Labor. This is a victory for our workers and we need to continue fighting for what is good for our economy and good for our families. Talk to your Senators and ensure they pass legislation that will help you and your family.
