In august of 2003 the Guam Education Policy Board stole an entire paycheck from teachers and even though the Civil Service Commission and Judges Barret-Anderson, and Lamorena have ordered DOE to pay teachers back it has yet to happen.
In 2006 DOE Superintendent and GFT President Matt Rector Co-Signed a letter to Governor Camacho asking him to release enough cash so that justice could be served and teachers could be repaid but the money was instead used for other purposes.
Every elected official says that public education is a priority. Let’s ask them to demonstrate this by repaying the people that are responsible for the education of our children, their teachers.
Not a teacher? Justice for one is justice for all or as Martin Luther King once said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhereâ€. When we fight for justice together we all win.
No society can succeed when it continues to sacrifice its children by not supporting their education. 1 in 3 teachers leave the profession in their first 3 years and half in their first 5. Demonstrating that we don’t condone theft will greatly help our children retain the highly qualified teachers they deserve.
