“What do you want from a career?” asked President Rector. “Job security, job satisfaction, and to earn enough money to provide a decent life for my family”, students answered. These students had it nailed! President Rector then explained how private sector workers, that weren’t in unions, had almost none of these. He explained how Guam is an At-Will territory where the Boss doesn’t need a reason or just cause to fire you and workers on Guam earn almost half of what their counter parts do in the States. These young people knew what they wanted. President Rector went on to explain to them how to get it. Organize!!! By the end of the lecture, students were aware of workers’ rights and the Power of uniting together in order to produce solutions not only at work but for our entire island community. Be on the lookout for the lecture on vimeo and The Working Family TV Show.
