Collective Bargaining began yesterday for DOE’s Support Staff which comprise of school aids, cafeteria workers, and custodial/maintenance workers. Negotiations were very productive and off to a quick start knocking out half of the contract on the first day! It’s important that our Support Staff are taken care of with a good contract in place because of the great value they have in our education system. Our children are safe because of the supervision from school aids, our children are well-nourished and ready to learn because of the service from cafeteria workers, and our children have facilities maintained because of our custodial workers. Without the work of Support Staff, our schools could not function and operate properly.
