GFT has filed a writ of mandate prepared by Attorney Robert Kutz against the Port Authority of Guam management and Board of Directors for failing to negotiate in good faith. Since August 2008, GFT had requested to start negotiation meetings which did not begin until February 2009. In 2009, there had been quite a number of unsuccessful meetings due to changes in the Port’s authorized negotiators or unwillingness to negotiate on issues such as Seniority Rights, Union Dues, and Length of Contract. Due to the Port’s lack of cooperation, we have resorted to taking action with the court so that the Port management is ordered to negotiate according to the law. Our Port workers have suffered far too long without a contract in place, and they deserve the protection and fairness in their jobs.
