The AG’s opinion states that Barry Mead’s attacks on our union have NO MERIT!!! Last month Mead, GCC’s faculty Chair, sent a letter to acting Governor Mike Cruz asking him to invalidate the Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) that protect GFT members and cease all current negotiations. The Acting Governor then requested an AG’s opinion which came back yesterday (click here to read). Fortunately, Mike Cruz agrees with this well thought out opinion and states that “Rector’s status as the President of the Guam Federation of Teachers is valid…I am assured that ongoing collective bargaining should proceed as scheduled thus ensuring the interests of our public sector employees are protected.” Now hopefully, Agency heads will start following the law, just like GFT always has, and start acting in Good Faith so that we can finish the CBA’s we are negotiating and get recognition that has been illegally denied for too long.
