Last Friday, President Rector had a good interview with Travis Coffman on K57 discussing some of GFT’s recent victories. Click here to listen to the radio interview

AFT INCLUDES THE TERRITORIES
President Rector explains his efforts in reminding our National Affiliate, AFT, to include the territories on important constitutional amendments. Fortunately, the Territories were included in one specific amendment during the AFT Annual Convention in July which gives an additional funding of about $18,000 to GFT.

$20M FEDERAL AID TO GUAM THANKS TO AFT
President Rector talks about some proposals on the use of the $20M in Federal Aid to GDOE which was made possible by the lobbying efforts of the AFT. Rector will be sending a letter to DOE Superintendent Underwood urging her to use part of the funds to pay back Teachers for the Summer/DEED adjustment pay as well as for illegal furlough. These are long overdue debts that hundreds of our teachers deserve.

CBA’S & NEGOTIATIONS CONTINUE!
Another victory discussed was Acting Governor Mike Cruz’s decision to proceed with Collective Bargaining & negotiations due to the AG’s confirmation on the validity of President Rector’s position. Fortunately, the attempt of “Collateral Attacks” on Collective Bargaining has failed and hopefully we can get a good contract in place for GMH Nurses, Port workers, DPW Bus Drivers and DOE Support Staff.

GFT Members have much to be proud of with these recent victories. Our struggle for a better life is constant and must be fought on every front with every tool we can muster but our strongest weapon is the united voice of our members and their families.
