In another effort to push through HATSA’s “CTEP”, DOE is circulating a document asking teachers to sign that they “endorse” this evaluation system. While signing doesn’t negate your rights it will make it difficult in negotiations. Currently, your contract states that any changes to the teacher evaluation system must be made by a committee made up of teachers and administrators. While that committee met and started to develop a workable system, they stopped meeting when that system wasn’t the one HATSA developed. Your evaluation system has a major impact on your professional life so let’s make sure that it is a system developed for teachers by teachers not by people that haven’t been in the classroom for decades and do not have to work under it.
