President Rector recently sent a letter to Superintendent Underwood urging her to pay back outstanding debts owed to teachers with the $20M in Federal assistance. “This is an opportune time for us to right some injustices of the past which we, the GEPB, the CSC and the courts agree upon, the repaying of the money wrongfully taken from teachers by the illegal furlough in 2003 and the outstanding back wages due to teachers who taught DEED, Summer School and Eskuelan Puengi during School year and summer 2006-7,” stated Rector in the letter. Rector further proposes that a Memorandum of Understanding be drafted which agrees on the amounts to be paid, and upon receipt of these payments all legal proceedings be dropped. Hopefully Superintendent Underwood responds soon so that this can finally be resolved and bring justice to our teachers.
