Earlier in the school year, GFT staff visited various schools discussing current work issues with our members. As the teachers’ contract negotiations are soon approaching, we wanted to find out what issues our members would like addressed in the next contract.

We could negotiate into the contract that every teacher must serve on 1 committee at their school or on a Board Union Committee as long as they are paid for it. 71% of our members surveyed ranked this issue as highly important to address in the contract.

Secondary Department Chairs receive at least 1 extra Prep period but Elementary Grade Level Chairs have to do it on their own time. 83% of our members surveyed ranked this issue as highly important to address in the contract.

An extra prep period or leave would help encourage better worksite leaders (stewards) at every school and will assist them in doing this important work. 75% of our members surveyed ranked this issue as highly important to address in the contract.

Seniority is always a big issue at every worksite. 57% of our members surveyed would like to change the seniority from worksite based to system based so that teachers can transfer schools without losing their seniority.
