Thousands of our people attended GCC Vocational High School and said it was a wonderful educational experience. Its disappearance created a gaping hole in the educational opportunities available to our children, which is why Senator Guthertz introduced Bill 6-31. This would mandate that GCC reopen a high school.

GCC ALUMNI
GCC alumni need to tell Senators about their experience as a “Tradesman”. Are you glad you had that opportunity? Should your children be able to choose the same opportunity? The bill insists on a complete curriculum including sports. This means that, once again, students will be able to fully participate in the educational experience even if they choose a technical path.

EMPLOYERS
A large percentage of Guam’s employers in both the public and private sector (including GFT) benefited from the professionally trained personnel that graduated from GCC High. They didn’t just have one or two classes on construction, computers or telephone etiquette but were part of an entire program that prepared them to enter the work force ready on day one.

PARENTS
Different children benefit from different learning conditions. While our children thrive in DOE’s traditional education programs, many students in the past found success through GCC’s Vocational High School. One size never fits all in education and what works for one student may not work for another. Do you think that more opportunities and choices for your children is a good thing?
