A local union says health professionals at the Guam Memorial Hospital have been exposed to dangerous levels of nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, for years.

The Guam Federation of Teachers, which represents hospital staff, has criticised the hospital authority for failing to protect its operating staff from the gas leak.

The union’s president, Matt Rector, says long term exposure to nitrous oxide has caused a range of illnesses from headaches to breast cancer.
