Massive teacher lay-offs are trickling down State by State harming working families and jeopardizing our children’s education. Plans of teacher lay-offs and increasing class sizes up to 60 children are just a few of the issues surrounding our brothers and sisters in the mainland. Plans of cutting collective bargaining rights for public employees such as what’s happening in Wisconsin and Ohio are underway. State and Federal budgets are being cut left and right and only a matter of time when this starts hurting the billions of dollars in Federal assistance that we receive on Guam. We have diligently been working on resuming contract negotiations for our bus drivers, fire fighters, and port workers and will continue seeking recognition for GMHA support staff and DMH psych techs so that our workers are protected. It’s time that we stand together and prepare for the challenges ahead.
