Once upon a time, Guam’s public elementary schools actually had decent music education taught by a music specialist.  Sadly, due to the lack of funds music specialists were one of the first areas cut from the budget for decades now.  Music not only allows children to express themselves but studies have shown that music education improves skills in the areas of math, reading and language.  It’s a shame that our children are being robbed of an essential part of learning and development.  The union will be working with the education board in bringing back music specialists through the teachers’ contract.  If you would like to be a part of this campaign or if you have any input then send us an email at gftactive@gftunion.com.
