Even after the U.S. Department of Labor concluded that there was only one error made during the GFT Election, Carol Somerfleck continues to make false claims in the media to further attack the union’s leadership.  “I know there are more than one findings that’s causing this re-election…there’s got to be more than a dozen violations that caused it to come to this settlement,” stated Carol Somerfleck in an interview with Ray Gibson.  It is clearly stated in the letter from the U.S. DOL that “By entering into this agreement, GFT does not admit to any intentional violation of the LMRDA but recognizes that omissions in the phrasing of the election notice resulted in members at seven sites, listed in the notice as polling sites, not being informed of the alternative of voting at the GFT office when volunteer pollsters did not appear to open those polls”.  There were over a dozen allegations, not violations, but after several back and forth communication between the GFT and the U.S. DOL, the only error in the election was the fact that seven schools that were published as polling sites did not have a union steward present to conduct the election in that school.  The GFT Election Mailer included the following: Please contact your Union Steward/Pollster for voting time and place.  Schools and Worksites not listed may vote at the GFT Office in Mangilao.  Updates for the location of the voting sites will be available at the GFT Office and will be posted on the GFT Website. Thank you.  Should it have stated “Please contact your Union Steward/Pollster for voting time and place.  Schools and Worksites not listed OR ALL MEMBERS AT VARIOUS WORK SITES may vote at the GFT Office in Mangilao.  Updates for the location of the voting sites will be available at the GFT Office and will be posted on the GFT Website. Thank you, there would be no need for a re-election.
