The two sides settled economic issues during negotiation sessions before the strike began last Wednesday, but the teachers went on strike after they couldn't agree on work rules.

"But what the board also wants to do is control our working conditions, tell us what to do every second of the day, just micromanage," Poultney High School biology teacher Kaitlin Cioffii said. "We just wouldn't agree to that so the board walked away. We are ready to negotiate whenever they are."

On Guam it is illegal for teachers or any Public employees to strike.
