We have had quite a few calls from members concerned about being able to attend their child’s parent teacher conferences or any other involvement with their child’s school.  In 1998, Executive Order No. 98-16 allows GovGuam employees, who are parents, to use up to four (4) hours every pay period of Administrative leave for parental involvement in their child’s school or to meet with a teacher or school aid pertaining to their child’s performance or behavior.  Although this is dependent upon approval of a supervisor, it cannot be unreasonably denied.  This is a good benefit for our workers as we encourage parents to actively participate in their child’s education.  Numerous studies show that parental involvement increases a child’s academic performance and behavior in school so it’s important that parents spend time helping their children with homework, projects or attend school activities.
