Thanks to the contract, teachers have input in developing the School Calendar. According to Article 6.A.2. School Calendar:
A joint committee appointed by the President of the Union and the GEPB shall be formed to study and recommend a school calendar(s) to the GEPB. The committee shall deliver the calendar(s) to the GEPB no later than January 31st. In the development of the annual school calendar, the committee shall take into consideration make-up days for instructional days lost due to natural disasters or inclement weather, specific instructional days, teacher workdays, holidays and days for system wide events and other educational activities.
