GFT Member at Simon Sanchez High School, Melanie Blas, was awarded the Magpro Award for the community service and volunteerism efforts she has lead with her students in protecting our environment and natural resources.  “It’s an honor to receive this and I am humbled. Many people on this island deserve this award and many were nominated. I am happy that a teacher from GDOE was selected because it highlights the great things that public school kids can do to make this island a better place,” stated Blas.  Blas teaches Marine Biology and has been teaching for about 17 years in GDOE.  Blas gives credit to the natural resource agencies, non-profit organizations and Government agencies that dedicate their lives protecting Guam’s resources.  Her students have participated in many of the efforts from these organizations with tree planting, clean ups, conferences, hearings, workshops and presentations.
