The American Federation of Teachers granted a charter on April 3, 1965 to the Guam Federation of Teachers. There were fourteen Charter members who were teachers in the Guam Department of Education.  Wednesday marked GFT’s 48th year!  For the past 48 years, GFT has advocated for fairness and justice in the workplace through collective bargaining agreements, legislation action, and representation at work and the Civil Service Commission.  GFT started out with thirty to forty Department of Education teachers, who made up the original membership of the union.  Today, GFT represents almost 2,000 members in the Government of Guam, Alutiiq and Rome Research.
