GFT Staff has been visiting schools during lunch breaks to talk to members regarding any issues and concerns at work and to simply provide information on union activities and events.  Many schools were cooperative and happy to have GFT staff available to assist members.  However, when GFT staff visited Carbullido Elementary School today, during teachers’ lunch break, the administrator instructed them to come at a later date at the administrator’s convenience.  There should be no delays in allowing this union right as it is federal law.

According to the National Labor Relations Act, it is illegal for an employer to:

Prohibit soliciting for a union during non-work time, such as before or after work or during break times; or from distributing union literature during non-work time, in non-work areas, such as parking lots or break room.
