An informational hearing was held yesterday on Public Law 34-105 relative to converting the 180 instructional days required each school year by the Guam Department of Education to 900 instructional hours per year for elementary schools and 1,260 instructional hours per year for middle and high schools. GFT provided testimony proposing the following language in (I) (13) of 715 Chapter 7 of Title 1 of the Guam Code Annotated relative to defining 180 instructional day equivalent for public schools:

(13) Nine hundred (900) calendared instructional hours, including make-up days each school year with school years ending no later than thirty (30) days following the end of the calendared school year.
(A) The Superintendent shall determine the specific make-up days and make-up hours whenever feasible.
(B) Scheduled Easter and Christmas breaks shall not be included in make-up days or hours; and
The requested amendment set forth above is necessary to correct an inadvertent err of fact in the existing code and the unintended consequences that may otherwise result.
