Tuesday, May 12, frontline workers and supporters who’ve worked to provide essential services throughout this pandemic rallied at the ITC intersection in Tamuning. Those who gathered wanted to make others aware of pay concerns for essential workers. Of the supporters, were two of GFT’s very own, President Timothy Fedenko and Recruiter Mario Espinoza.
“Many employees, both union members and non-members have worked so hard to keep us safe and to keep Guam going during this time. The least that can be done is to make sure they’re fairly compensated,” Fedenko said.
Legislators, namely Senators Joe San Agustin and James Moylan and Delegate Michael San Nicolas, have sided with workers and are also fighting for fair pay during the emergency period.
Governor Leon Guerrero issued a statement earlier this week saying she is “confident” that GovGuam employees working on the frontlines are being compensated “in accordance with the laws of Guam.”
