My name is Christian San Nicolas, one of the Program Coordinators with the Micronesia Climate Change Alliance, a local Non-Profit Organisation dedicated to building community-based solutions to the climate crisis!
Our organization was recently awarded Grant Funding by the Guam Council on the Arts & Humanities Agency to develop a community project titled “Telling Tales with Trash” in which we will be giving selected classrooms funds to create art using cleaned and sanitised trash. Guam creates 160,000 tons of trash daily, most of which is single-use plastic. K-12 students island wide will connect to the waste crisis by giving trash a second life and retelling local stories in new creative/artistic ways.
The project will culminate Earth Month 2022 in April with an Art & Photo exhibit located at the Guam Premium Outlets showcasing sculptures created from waste, where we will invite the community to view and vote for multiple categories of the exhibit.
Attached I have included our teacher registration fliers for this year’s event. We would love your help in getting the word out to educators within your network you feel would be open to adding this island-wide school project in their classrooms.
